The Value of Education
Shawn Mozen
The
Kettlebell revolution marches on. Agatsu Kettlebell instructors
are spreading out across Canada and into the US. Along with
individual instructors, gyms are starting to set up Kettlebell
programs and are offering their clients classes and one on one
instruction. Persechini
Fitness in Newmarket is one such gym. The gym has five certified
Agatsu Kettlebell Coaches and is the first Toronto area fitness
facility to offer this high level of quality Kettlebell training.
The Kettlebell program at Persechini Fitness has been attracting
attention from all over Toronto and has been featured in local
newspapers. With a host of certified trainers there is no better
location in the Toronto area to learn about Kettlebells.
As a result of the growing interest in Kettlebells more and
more personal trainers and gyms are starting programs across
the country. Some of these gyms are seeking certified trainers
while others are trying to jump on the bandwagon without proper
instruction. A personal trainer may have a host of certifications
under his/her belt however if they have not been properly instructed
in Kettlebell technique they should not be offering others training.
I was recently asked about an individuals credentials after
someone saw him training a client with Kettlebells in a local
gym. This instructor was teaching how to perform a two hand
swing and had his client stopping the Kettlebell at their knees
rather than letting it pass through their legs and properly
load their hamstrings. This trainer is not only doing his client
a great disservice he is risking potentially causing her serious
physical harm.
Kettlebell training is about more than swinging a weight around.
There are safety protocols, basic fundamentals and training
strategies that must be learnt in order to get the most out
of your training. If your trainer doesn't know these, hasn't
taken the time to get certified, to invest in his education
and your training then what is he/she worth to you?
If you are interested in learning how to train with a Kettlebell
get yourself to a certified trainer. If you are a trainer and
want to offer your clients Kettlebell training then get yourself
certified.
For those of you in the Toronto area I encourage you to check
out Persechini Fitness, their Kettlebell program and all of
the other services they offer.
