Pistols; the Black Beast

Sebastien Gignac

Most of the time pistols are feared because the first time you try it you more than likely fall on your ass. Pistols are a great leg strengtheners but it requires more than just strength, you also need some balance and more important; PERSEVERANCE.

There is no secrets here, ok, you need to work your pistols while you are as fresh as possible and also as often as possible. To avoid fatigue, keep your reps low (3-5).

There is plenty of great tips to work them and enable you to reach a full quality pistol. Recently I have found another good way to work them with one of my friend. It is great because you don’t work in a stable environnement so it helps you work your balance. It’s bungee cord assisted pistols using a pull-up bar. You can adjust the assistance by adding or removing bungee cords or bands. You simply work your reps to 5 and each time you reach this number release the tension and build up again to 5 reps.

You cannot cheat with this method, the bungee cords or bands are unstable, they only give you a little help while working your stabs.

Give it a try, you will end up very proud of impressing your friends with your new skills.
