Kettlebells for Everyone
Craig Hubert
Since this is my inaugural article for Canadiankettlebellmag.com,
I thought I’d share my thoughts as to why I think everybody
should at least give Kettlebell practice a go.
When I first came across Kettlebells my initial reaction was
like everyone else who sees them for the first time “What
the Hell is that?” By the end of my first set of swings
however, my mind was racing with the potential benefits this
new tool could have for the hockey players I work with as well
as all of my other clients.
I rarely endorse one form of training over another but since
using KBs with my clients I really don’t see the need
to use anything else. Wanna build mass? You can with a Kettlebell.
Muscular and cardiovascular endurance? Pick up a Kettlebell
and try some high rep circuits. Think ya need to be more explosive?
You guessed it-Kettlebells!
Simplicity is what makes it so effective. The position of the
load relative to the handle really gives you a wide variety
of exercises to choose from using a single weight, and for an
added bonus you can try alternating between bilateral and unilateral
exercises to give you an endless amount of possibilities. If
you’re someone who doesn’t like variety- no problem
‘cause the fundamentals of kettlebell practice (swings
and grinds) are more than enough to have anyone progressing
in their training for a really long time .You don’t need
a room full of fancy equipment to get you to your fitness goals,
for you guy’s out there, start with a 36 and a 55. If
you’re really motivated and want to start heaving some
serious weight, than pick yourself up a 72 lb ‘bell. And
for you ladies, an 18 and 36lb should fulfill all of your toning
and strengthening desires.
If lack of time is an excuse you frequently use to skip your
workouts than have no fear, kettlebells are perfect for you.
Using only 1 weight (e.g. 36 lb), which can easily be packed
into the trunk of your car, you’ll have the ability to
get a great workout in as little as fifteen minutes anytime,
anywhere.
So there you have it my basic reasoning why kettlebells should
be used by everyone. But don’t take my word for it, if
you haven’ t already, you owe it to yourself to try a
kettlebell practice- you’re body will thank you for it.
